Election campaign contributions
Parties and party units may receive gifts and contributions from private persons, enterprises and organisations. The party is required to know who the donor is, that it is not a state-owned enterprise or a foreign donor. In connection with election years, the parties have a special duty to report donations exceeding NOK 10 000, received in the period 1 January until the Friday before the election day.
“Election campaign contributions” is a term covering all donations the parties receive in the above time frame. It also covers donations that are made regularly or pursuant to an agreement, e.g. “party tax” from own members, monthly donations or donations from a party organisation that, per se, is not subject to the Political Parties Act.
The following contributions are examples of election campaign contributions:
- money
- goods
- services
- loans
- discounts
- services that are provided free of charge or at a lower price
- loans on non-commercial terms
